PM Chairs Legalizing Church Status Committee Meeting
Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly chaired a meeting of the main committee responsible for legalizing the status of churches. Attendees included Adnan Fangari, Minister of Justice; General Mohamed El Gedawy, Chief of Staff of the Licensing Department (Armed Forces Engineering Authority); Engineer Mohamed Hisham Darwish, Assistant Minister of Housing for the Construction and Contracting Sector; Dr. Gamal Mostafa, Head of the Islamic and Coptic Antiquities Sector; and Engineer Alaa Abdel Fattah, Assistant Minister of Local Development.
According to Counselor Mohamed Al-Homsani, the official spokesperson for the Cabinet, the committee reviewed the outcomes of the assessments conducted since its last meeting concerning the status of churches and service buildings that requested legalization. As a result, the committee approved the legalization of 293 churches and affiliated buildings, bringing the total number of churches and buildings approved for legalization since the committee’s inception to 3,453.
The Cabinet Spokesperson further noted that the meeting also addressed the fulfillment of civil protection requirements for churches that have already been approved for legalization, underscoring the committee’s commitment to ensuring these essential standards are met.
