A French subsidisation for the development of the green hydrogen sector

In support of the state’s plan to shift towards green, the plenary sessions of the House of Representatives, chaired by Counselor Dr. Hanafi Jabali, witnessed the approval of the President of the Arab Republic of Egypt’s Decision No. 547 of 2022 regarding the approval of the memorandum of understanding regarding strategic technical cooperation between the Arab Republic of Egypt and the French Republic for the development of the green hydrogen sector in Egypt, the signatory In Cairo on May 30, 2022, according to which France provides a grant that does not exceed 500 thousand euros (five hundred thousand euros) through its development financial institution, the French Development Agency.

Agreement details and objectives:

1-The agreement comes in light of the state targeting green hydrogen projects and placing them at the top of its priorities, given that hydrogen is the fuel of the future and environmentally friendly. A joint national committee for green hydrogen has been approved between the relevant ministries with a desire to expand clean renewable energy projects.

2- In light of France’s adoption of the national strategy for the development of hydrogen in 2020 and the French side’s experience in the field of hydrogen and in order to enhance technical cooperation with the French side, Dr. Rania Al-Mashat, Minister of International Cooperation, signed on May 30, 2022 in Cairo a memorandum of understanding regarding strategic technical cooperation between the Arab Republic of Egypt The French Republic is represented by the French Development Agency, which is a public institution and financing company, to contribute to the implementation of the French development aid policy abroad in order to develop the green hydrogen sector in Egypt.

3- The agreement will magnify the role of the electricity and renewable energy sector through the use of green hydrogen as a clean fuel for the future and the true leader of the second wave of the global energy transition, given that its production depends on clean renewable energy sources and because it is more efficient.

4- Green hydrogen will enhance Egypt’s contribution to achieving the global target of reducing global carbon emissions by 55 million tons annually by 2050, and thus reducing environmental pollution facing the world.
