Libya is looking to strengthen its cooperation with ISESCO to serve the heritage

The Libyan Minister of Culture and Knowledge Development, Mabrouka Toghi Othman, discussed today with Dr. Salem bin Muhammad Al-Malik, Director General of the Islamic World Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ICESCO), ways to enhance cooperation with ISESCO to serve the Libyan cultural heritage.
Dr. Al-Malik stressed that ISESCO, within the framework of its new vision and strategic directions, places the preservation and valuation of heritage in the countries of the Islamic world at the top of its priorities, as it records historical sites and cultural elements on its lists of heritage in the Islamic world, and builds capacities and trains workers in the field of heritage in countries The Islamic world to prepare registration files on heritage lists.
The Director General of ISESCO indicated that the organization has registered a number of Libyan historical sites on its lists of heritage in the Islamic world. It also works with the Libyan authorities specialized in the fields of education and science to identify their needs and priorities, in order to design programs and activities commensurate with these priorities.
The meeting discussed ISESCO’s support for the School of Traditional Arts and Crafts in Tripoli, to become a regional center for the promotion and preservation of traditional crafts, and to hold training courses for workers in the field of heritage in Libya.
For her part, the Libyan Minister of Culture praised ISESCO’s efforts in supporting its member states to preserve and value heritage, noting that the Ministry organized last week a ceremony marking the registration of a number of Libyan sites on ISESCO’s lists of heritage in the Islamic world.
