Sisi, IMF Managing Director Discuss Bilateral Cooperation in Dubai

President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi reviewed in a meeting with IMF Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva in Dubai on Thursday 30/11/2023 cooperation between Egypt and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) in light of the program to fully implement Egypt’s economic reforms.

According to the Egyptian Presidency Spokesman Ahmed Fahmy, El-Sisi said he appreciated the fruitful partnership between both sides and emphasised the Egyptian government’s commitment to maintaining it.

He also highlighted the program’s benefits for the Egyptian economy and for attracting more foreign investments to Egypt.

For her part, Georgieva confirmed the IMF’s interest in advancing its outstanding cooperation with Egypt and its support for Egypt’s economic reforms.

She also lauded the performance of the Egyptian economy and its resilience in the face of the negative repercussions of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Russian-Ukrainian crisis, and the situation in Gaza.

Furthermore, Georgieva confirmed the IMF’s commitment to maintaining cooperation with the government to achieve Egypt’s national goals, including enhancing the overall economic indicators, bolstering its competitiveness, fostering deeper private sector engagement, and completing the ongoing development efforts.

During the meeting, both sides also discussed climate change and climate finance, notably in developing countries. Moreover, they discussed the global economic situation and the ongoing efforts to reform and enhance the international financing system and multilateral financial institutions to address global challenges.
