Int’l Community Must Push for Immediate Ceasefire in Gaza War: Egypt FM at G20 Meeting

Minister of Foreign Affairs Badr Abdelatty said the international community must avoid using a selective approach in addressing current regional and global challenges, reiterating Cairo’s call for an end to Israeli aggression against Lebanon and immediate ceasefire in the Gaza war.

FM Abdelatty’s remarks came during his participation at the G20 Group Foreign Ministers’ Meeting, held on the sidelines of the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York.

Abdel Atty further called for all international parties to unite their efforts to reach an immediate ceasefire in Gaza and ensure a safe and unobstructed access to humanitarian and relief aid to the besieged strip.

He also warned against the dangerous Israeli escalation in Lebanon, stressing such actions could push the region into a broader conflict.

During the meeting, the Egyptian FM highlighted the urgency of addressing the escalating geopolitical tensions and the impact of successive international crises on sustainable development and climate change.

Abdel Atty stressed the disproportionate impact of global crises on developing nations, which have limited resources and access to technology.

He pointed out that some developed countries have not fulfilled their obligations to provide climate finance, underscoring the severe impact of climate change on water scarcity.

The Egyptian top diplomat urged the G20 Group to take a leading role in transforming the global financial system to better support developing countries, enabling them to cope with the cumulative effects of ongoing crises.

The Egyptian FM’s participation in the 79th UNGA follows a visit to Washington D.C., where he had multiple meetings with senior US officials.
