Sports minister congratulates fencer Mohamed Yassin for clinching gold
Minister of Youth and Sports Ashraf Sobhi congratulated Egyptian fencer Mohamed Yassin for snatching the gold at the 2023 Junior and Cadet Fencing World Championships that take place in the Bulgarian city of Plovdiv on April 1-9.
In press statements on Friday, Sobhi said the Egyptian sports witnesses unprecedented achievements in the world sports arena, thanks to the great support and special sponsorship provided by the State for more than 300 Egyptian athletes in different games.
He praised other victories made by Egyptian fencers who take part in the Fencing World Championships in Bulgaria, as Egypt’s fencing team scored the silver, while fencer Ahmed Hashim won the bronze in the men’s singles and fencer Abdel Rahman Tolba clinched the bronze in the U-17 category.
In the final, Yassin defeated a Switzerland’s fencer 14-13 to claim the first place and gold.
In the semi-finals, Yassin beat an American fencer 15-11.
Yassine started his campaign in the tournament by winning 4 of the 5 group stage matches, beating the champions of Slovenia, Japan, Brazil and Macedonia.
He beat a Turkish fencer 15-6 and defeated a Zionist fencer in the round of 64 with a score of 15-9.
