Minister of Sports and Youth Ashraf Sobhi and Cairo Governor Khaled Abdel Aal on Friday 14/07/2023 took part in the Cairo Marathon to mark the 1,054th anniversary of the capital’s national day.

Some 3,000 contestants participated in the marathon that included running and racing with bicycles, and motorcycles.

It started from Yasser Rizk Axis in Mokkatam district, passing through Taha Hussein Bridge in Old Cairo’s Fustat area to the National Museum of Egyptian Civilization (NMEC).

The sports minister said his ministry is keen on organizing marathons and sporting races to encourage all categories of the society to do exercise and maintain their physical fitness, with a view to preserving public health.

The Cairo governor lauded the sports minister’s support for all sporting activities hosted by the capital.

Abdel Aal said President Abdel Fattah El Sisi pays great attention to backing sports talents in all individual and team games to preserve Egypt’s position in international sports competitions.

“We chose this route to encourage youth to engage in sports and introduce them to one of the major achievements made by the state in a record time, to facilitate vehicle movements, reduce time and fuel consumption, and improve air quality,” the governor added.

It also aims to introduce them to the Taha Hussein Bridge, which is a unique engineering work in the field of bridge construction as it was completely built after nine months of non-stop work, the governor noted.
