Egyptian embassy in Germany receives 40 smuggled artifacts

Egypt’s Ambassador in Berlin Khalid Galal received on Monday 10/7/2023 more than 40 smuggled Egyptian artifacts from Germany.

Cultural Officer for the Middle East and Africa at the German Foreign Ministry Carsten Wilms handed over the artifacts to the Egyptian embassy in Berlin.

The smuggled artifacts were seized by authorities at Frankfurt Airport.

Egypt retrieved the smuggled artifacts as per the 1970 Convention on the Means of Prohibiting and Preventing the Illicit Import, Export and Transfer of Ownership of Cultural Property.

Egypt is a signatory to the convention that urges States Parties to take measures to prohibit and prevent the illicit trafficking of cultural property.
