Sameh Shoukry: The countries of the south are facing successive crises

Ambassador Ahmed Abu Zaid, the official spokesman and director of the Public Diplomacy Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, stated that within the framework of the invitation extended to Egypt from India to participate as a guest in the G20 meetings, Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry delivered a recorded speech during the ministerial meeting of the “Voice of the South” conference under the Indian presidency of the G20. The Foreign Ministry spokesman indicated that Minister Shoukry began his speech by thanking the Indian presidency for inviting Egypt to participate in the activities of the group during its presidency, noting the challenges facing the countries of the south as a result of successive crises, including the Corona pandemic, supply chain crises, food security and climate change, noting that The need to adopt a comprehensive approach to deal with these challenges and to reach common and effective solutions.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs also referred to the importance of the G20 in providing the necessary impetus to reformulate the international economic system to respond effectively and in a timely manner to the challenges facing the countries of the South, expressing Egypt’s commitment to constructive engagement in the discussions and initiatives that will be put forward within the framework of the G20 in order to reach consensus on current complex challenges.

And the spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs added that Minister Sameh Shoukry also reviewed in his speech some priorities and ideas that may contribute to the group’s discussions in this regard, pointing to the importance of the group taking the initiative in obligating development partners to provide the necessary support to the countries of the south for recovery in the short term. And dealing with their development needs in the long term, and reviewing the role played by Egypt recently in making strong and unprecedented commitments within the framework of the Sharm El-Sheikh climate conference.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs also stressed the importance of realizing that access to energy for all countries and the energy transition will not be achieved without ensuring adequate financing and transfer of technology to developing countries, noting Egypt’s launch of the Global Renewable Hydrogen Forum during the Climate Conference, and the trade opportunities that the forum can provide between developing and developed countries. He expressed Egypt’s aspiration to support the G20 for the forum’s activities, The Minister of Foreign Affairs also expressed Egypt’s readiness to cooperate with the international community in order to host a global center for the supply and storage of grains, in a way that contributes to facing the global food crisis, expressing Egypt’s support for the goals of the agricultural working group of the Group of Twenty in order to formulate a road map for food security and climate-smart agriculture. .
