The Hurghada International Youth Film Festival will hold a symposium and tribute to Major General Dr. Samir Farag on the occasion of the golden jubilee of the glorious October victories and a collection of war films will be shown.
In its first session, which will be held from September 21 to September 27 2023, writer and screenwriter Mohamed El Basousi, head of the festival, says that the date of the first session of the festival coincides with the celebration of the 50th anniversary of the October War 1973.
Therefore, we contacted Major General Dr. Samir Farag as one of the heroes of the glorious war and the most prominent witnesses of this era to review during the symposium the preliminary stages that Egypt went through until it achieved this victory; and how the war wrote a new history for the Middle East and the world as a whole. Studies and researches are still issued by them despite the passage of half a century.
He added that the symposium will be followed by honoring Major General Dr. Samir Farag and showing a group of films that were shot specifically about the war including the movie “Tank Hunter” directed by Khairy Bishara, directed by Mahmoud Abdel Samie, and produced in 1974.
It is one of the immortal documentaries that dealt with the war through one of its heroes, Abdel Ati, who is known as the “tank hunter” and a tribute film to an Egyptian fighter directed by Salah Al-Tohamy and the film “The End of the Bar Lev Line” directed by Abdel Qader Al-Tlemsani, and the movie “Heroes from Egypt” directed by Ahmed Rashid; all of them were films that dealt with the great October victory.
