“Minister of Immigration”: The Egyptian abroad is at the heart of the development process

Ambassador Suha Gendy, Minister of State for Immigration and Egyptians Abroad Affairs, participated in the activities of the main session of the third annual conference on sustainability, which is organized by the Orman Foundation in Luxor Governorate, in cooperation and coordination with the Federation of Egyptian Industries.

Under the auspices of His Excellency President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, President of the Republic, during the period from January 12 to January 15, in the presence of the Ministers of Finance, Social Solidarity, and Agriculture, and a number of leaders of the largest civil institutions and civil society.
Gendi confirmed that the Ministry of Immigration has returned to the Egyptian government and has set itself goals and a work strategy to work through, but the biggest challenge is to reach every Egyptian in the world, which we are always working on, not only to communicate the voice of Egypt to Egyptians abroad, but also to communicate the voice of Egyptians abroad to their motherland and link them to it in All forms of sustainable development, noting that the Egyptian abroad is at the heart of the development process.

During her speech, the Minister of Immigration reviewed the efforts of the Ministry of Immigration within the framework of achieving the international goals of sustainable development, which is in line with the government’s strategy 2030, especially supporting the first goal, which is poverty eradication, the third goal is quality education, the ninth goal of sustainable development goals to promote industry and innovation, and the seventeenth goal. Establishing partnerships to achieve the goals, which includes strengthening the means of implementation and revitalizing the global partnership for sustainable development.

The Minister of Immigration addressed the mechanisms for implementing the first international goal related to the eradication of poverty, which is reflected in supporting the economy through the ministry’s participation in supporting the largest national project “a decent life” to develop the Egyptian countryside, by promoting its goals and collecting donations in which immigrants in the United States participate and young people join them in schools in Canada.

Where a visit was organized for them last month to one of the sites of the “Decent Life” projects, and they donated from their own funds at the value of one and a half million pounds, out of their conviction in the project’s objectives to improve the quality of life for the Egyptian citizen. As well as working on the implementation of the presidential initiative “The Lifeboat”, to raise awareness of the dangers of illegal immigration, to highlight and magnify the positive aspect of the immigration file in Egypt.

The minister dealt with efforts to support partnerships in implementation of the seventeenth international goal through cooperation in youth training, rehabilitation and employment projects within the framework of combating illegal immigration, by developing a strategy in which cooperation is carried out with the relevant ministries, in addition to cooperation with civil society organizations working in training and rehabilitation of youth.

As well as cooperation at the international level, where cooperation is taking place with Germany, represented by the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ), through the establishment of the Egyptian-German Center for Jobs, Migration and Reintegration, and the implementation of intensive training programs within the “Survival Boats” initiative, which reflects the state’s keenness to provide trained manpower. With high productivity to improve the quality of production, discipline at work, and the worker’s readiness to accept modern technology, to export trained labor, announcing that coordination is currently underway with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to establish an Egyptian-Saudi center through which work is done to qualify and educate Egyptian workers before they travel to the Kingdom.

She continued the implementation of the program “For a Comprehensive Approach to the Governance of Labor Migration and Labor Mobility in North Africa (THAMM), which is carried out in cooperation between the Ministry of Immigration, the European Union and the German government and in coordination with the implementing agencies, namely the International Labor Organization, the International Organization for Migration and the German Agency for International Cooperation.
The minister said that the Egyptian state attaches great importance to stimulating, attracting and settling direct investments of Egyptians abroad in Egypt, and maximizing their contribution and participation in providing the necessary investment resources to achieve comprehensive and sustainable economic development and economic empowerment.

Gendi referred to the efforts to achieve the third goal, the efficiency and quality of education, which is represented by the presence of many Egyptians abroad who are talented in many fields, from which we were able to benefit from, whether in national projects and the development process in Egypt, or training Egyptian youth and benefiting from their practical and scientific experiences and volunteering to give lectures. In Egyptian universities, as a contribution from them to achieving and supporting the development of education in Egypt, as well as supporting the development of the health system.

The Minister of Immigration explained that the projects that are being worked on are organizing the “Egypt Can Industry in Africa” conference as part of the “Egypt Can” conference series, to bring in African investors who have major projects and industries, to link industry and the free trade agreement with Africa, as we aim to be Egypt is a window to Africa and the development and increase of Egyptian exports to the brown continent, in addition to working to establish a council for young scientists and innovators, whereby they will benefit from the Egyptian state’s projects that rely on innovation and technology, as part of efforts to achieve the ninth goal of sustainable development goals to promote industry and innovation.
