The US archaeological mission, working at Ramses II’s temple in Abydos, Sohag governorate, has unearthed more than 2,000 mummified heads of rams dating back to the Ptolemaic era.
A huge building dating back to the sixth dynasty has been also discovered.
Mostafa Waziry, the Secretary General of the Supreme Council of Antiquities, underlined the great importance of this discovery, which also included a number of mummified animals in the northern area of the temple.
Such a discovery contributes to finding out further details about the history of ancient Egyptians, he added.
