Anew world record for the largest ebru painting was set in Bostanlyk district, showcasing the artistry of Uzbek heritage on a global stage
The event, held under the patronage of the Tashkent Regional Hokimiyat and Saipro Group LLC, drew international attention with the participation of renowned artists, media representatives, and Guinness World Records officials. The primary objective was to celebrate Uzbekistan’s rich cultural heritage and promote its tourism potential.
The record-breaking ebru painting, measuring 12.96 meters in length and 1.61 meters in width, depicts the State Emblem of the Republic of Uzbekistan and the inscription “O’zbekiston – Mustaqillikka 33 yil” (“Independence of Uzbekistan – 33 years”). It surpasses the previous world record of 16.65 meters set in Qatar in 2009.
The artist behind this impressive creation is Ahmet Çoktan, a master of ebru art residing in Türkiye. He and his assistants meticulously crafted the image on water before transferring it onto special paper, a process witnessed by international experts who subsequently presented Mr. Çoktan with a certificate confirming the new world record.
Mr. Çoktan, who has been passionate about applied arts since childhood, highlighted the historical significance of ebru, originating in ancient Uzbekistan, specifically in Bukhara, where it was used for book design. He expressed his desire to use this art form to introduce the world to Uzbekistan’s rich history and culture, having previously showcased his works in exhibitions and cultural events across Japan, Germany, Canada, South Korea, and Qatar.
The event also featured a plein air painting session titled “Dawn of the New Uzbekistan,” dedicated to the 33rd anniversary of the country’s independence, further emphasizing the artistic spirit and cultural vibrancy of Uzbekistan.
This remarkable achievement serves as a powerful reminder of Uzbekistan’s artistic legacy and its commitment to preserving and showcasing its cultural heritage on an international platform. It is a testament to the country’s dedication to promoting tourism and fostering global appreciation for its unique artistic traditions.
